As associated researcher member of the Pos-graduation, he supervises students in Master and PhD and develops project in genomics, genetic, plant breeding and phytopathology. 

Since 1992, he has addressed by different disciplines the disease South American leaf Blight (SALB) caused by an ascomycete, Microcyclus ulei, associated to the low level of productivity in natural rubber of Hevea in Latin America:

 

  • Physiology of the interaction with a focus on the role of phenolic compounds (lignin, phytoalexins);
  • Breeding of SALB resistant and productive cultivars;
  • Identification of candidate genes by transcriptomics and functional genomics approaches.
  • Genetic mapping of SALB resistance QTLs

 

Partnerships in genetic phenotyping Hevea bi-parental populations and development of molecular markers (EST-SSR, SNP) in the aim to identify markers of agronomic caracters as resistance to Hevea leaf diseases (Microcyclus, Corynespora), yield, adaptation to sub-optimal area.

Breeder advisor for protection of Hevea cultivar in Brazil and valorization of the new cultivars in a multi-location field network.
